The PCSC Progress Report at the 2002 PCI Convention

During a session at the 2002 PCI Convention, the
PCSC reported on its
progress to date. Tekla Inc.,
the company that has been selected to develop the Precast
platform software, demonstrated a prototype version of their
software. The PCSC and Tekla aim to release
the first commercial version of the new precast concrete
package by 2004.

The PCSC Executive Meeting
Atlanta,

After much debate, the PCSC
executive voted to enter into an exclusive agreement with
Tekla to develop the Precast Platform, under terms acceptable
to the PCSC. The executive also decided to contract with the
Georgia Tech advisory team to
develop the Precast Data Model and to support the development
of the Precast Platform.

The Tekla's Hands-on Training

Tekla are running training
sessions for their Xsteel product in their Atlanta offices,
and so we have moved the workshop to Georgia Tech, Room 359
in the new Architecture Building.
Monday June 10th to Thursday
June 13th, 9:00am to 5:00pm - for all participants.
(Thursday afternoon's session will focus on plug-in
development).
Friday June 14th, 9:00am to
2:00pm - Executive Review.

The
7th Precast Concrete Software Consortium Meeting
Atlanta,

The five CAD developers on the short-list were re-invited to demonstrate their existing capabilities for about two hours at
the 7th PCSC meeting in Atlanta,
GA. The demonstration included:
- Benchmark
tests on the base CAD platform each developer was using,
to determine its ability to deal with large projects and
with parametric modeling,
- Demonstration
of specific capabilities that developers had noted as "existing"
in their preliminary submission,
- Developers'
response to specific shortcomings that the PCSC found in
each proposal. These included technical and business
issues.
- A
general presentation by developers with regard to their
strengths,
- A
question-and-answer session addressing developers' remaining
questions about the project, its specification, and the
goals of the PCSC.

CAD tool developers responded to the PCSC Request for Proposal.
The 12 CAD tool developers were aSa-Bentley, CADS USA-AutoDesk,
CEC-AutoDesk, DICAD, EDS PLM (Unigraphics, Parasolid), Elematic,
Leap-Solidworks, Neco, Nemetschek, PTAC-Solidworks, SmartCAD-AutoDesk,
and Tekla. The PCSC short-listed CAD platform developers to
five at
this meeting.
The
5th Precast Concrete Software Consortium Meeting
Orlando,
Florida, January
14-15, 2002
The
Request for Proposal document, including a detailed software
functionality specification, is now complete. This material
was distributed to the software vendors who have expressed
interest by December 15.
The
fifth PCSC meeting was held in Orlando, Florida from January
14 -16, 2002. This meeting was hosted by Finfrock. The agenda
included:
