  Course Description

  • This lecture explores advanced 3D parametric modeling methods in architectural design. The focus of the lecture is on the general parametric 3D modeling concept and its use in architectural design environment, where architects imagination is not limited by conventional computer aided drafting systems. Parameters are variables used in equations to assign values, such as coordinate, dimension, material, distance, angle, color, unit price, energy coefficient Parameters control the design and adjust the design according to the defined relations and constraints among the parameters in parametric CAD systems. Primary tool of the lecture is Digital Project of Gehry Technology. Digital Project is based on CATIA, which is one of the most powerful parametric design tools available. Digital Project came out of the needs from Gehry Partners Architects. Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao projects are two of the examples where Digital Project made possible to realize nontraditional, form-defying architecture and construction
