This site provides documentation and communication links for the Cast-in-Place Concrete National BIM Standard. The work is being carried out by ACI Committee 131. The work follows the general procedures of the National BIM Standard, as promoted by the National Institute of Building Science and the buildingSMART Alliance. The need for a National BIM standard are outlined in the Standards document- to support smooth and flawless data exchange in AECO BIM workflows. This is a challenge when heterogeneous applications are involved.
The National BIM Standard (Version 2, Chapter 7,(Appendix B)) defines its procedures for specifying and implementing exchanges graphically in the sequence of chevrons on the right.
The process has four phases:
Program: organizes the workgroup (here ACI-Committee 131) identification of process flows to be supported in a Process Map, identification of Exchange Requirements and Business Rules.
Design: define of Exchange Requirement Models and definition of Generic Model View Definition (MVD).
Construct: develop MVD Implementation Specifications, Support Implementation and Certification.
Deploy: provide BIM Guides, Validate exchange and data, and identify possible re-use.
Currently ACI-131 is at the phase defined by the red box.

The CIP focus initially is concrete detailing and placement. The process maps for this aspect of the concrete process are in the Process Map
The Process Maps are supported by descriptions in the Process Description link. They include descriptions of each of the three types of information in the Process Map: Tasks, Model Exchanges, and Non-Model Exchanges.
Exchange Tree provides an interactive page for user review and definition of the detailed exchange requirements. It can only be modified by ACI-131 Members.
